Jeff is a hospitality veteran with over 30 years of experience in hotels, resorts, and country clubs. His expertise lies in food and beverage, catering, and special events, finding the greatest satisfaction in witnessing the success of an event and the happiness it brings to clients.
Having spent 6 impactful years at Kona Kai, Jeff has also contributed his expertise to renowned establishments such as Morgan Run Golf and Resort Club, La Valencia Hotel, The Prado in Balboa Park, and Red Lion Hotels.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Jeff founded his own event planning company specializing in tailgate parties for the Chargers, Padres, and the Holiday Bowl. This unique endeavor reflects his passion for blending sports and celebrations into unforgettable experiences.
In his personal life, Jeff is happily married with two children attending TCU and SDSU. An avid sports enthusiast, he finds joy in both spectating and participating, making time for sports and happy hour as cherished rituals.

Yes, she is a double Disney princess. Born and raised in San Diego, Aeriel is a true San Diegan. With a bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts with an Emphasis in Performance and a Minor in Sociology, Aeriel has always enjoyed being around others and bringing smiles to their faces. In 2013, Aeriel made the switch from the stage and into hospitality beginning at the Front Desk. During her years in hospitality, she has held the titles of Sales Coordinator, Front Office Agent, Front Office Supervisor, Front Office Manager, Guest Services Manager and Group Rooms Coordinator.
Aeriel has always wanted to step into the world of Event Management and is excited to be doing just that with Kona Kai. He role at Kona Kai is robust as she leads all member events & activities with a focus on member relations and member happiness.
In her spare time, she enjoys watching movies and hosting game nights with her friends and husband. Aeriel is also a skilled line and hip-hop dancer, and she has performed in all the major San Diego theme parks. Her daily motivation comes from her young nieces. Aeriel states “I was raised by strong women, and I want to continue their legacy by being the best role model for my nieces.” One of Aeriel’s favorite quotes to live by is “The sun does not ask permission to shine, and neither should you.”

Scott Ostrander is a 33-year veteran of the hotel, resort, and country club industries. With nearly 25 years of leadership overseeing multiple hotels and assets as a regional manager or asset manager and as a general manager, he has guided four and/or five star and diamond luxury properties towards operational, service, and fiscal excellence.
From the grand dame of Dallas hotels, The Adolphus, featuring The French Room, to Adero Scottsdale Resort, Club & Spa to the nationally recognized Cedarbrook Lodge – located in Seattle, Washington; including forays into the environments of Country Club, Fractional Ownership and Residential Management.
Ostrander has excelled at re-branding and re-positioning unique hotels, resorts, and country clubs; including forays into magazine / book publishing (a fine dining restaurant magazine in Los Angeles and Orange County, California), professional athlete representation and more – all through passionately inspired service leadership. Scott’s extensive hospitality experience has also encompassed spas, golf courses, restaurants, catering/banquets, and private club membership sales & service – always with an emphasis on service culture.
Scott is known as an engaging & stimulating communicator, poised and capable of projecting enthusiasm and warmth, and of motivating other people. He has a strong sense of urgency, initiative, and competitive drive to get things done. He is known to have an invigorating impact on people and effectively uses his skills as a team builder to motivate, inspire and drive results.
Other than being passionate about hospitality, Scott enjoys golf, food, travel, and sports and remains invigorated and inspired by his family, work and community.
Fitness & Recreation Manager
Ashley Mathews is a versatile professional with a diverse background in business administration, entrepreneurship, hospitality management, student housing management, dance leadership and yoga instruction. Graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing from San Diego State University, Ashley’s career journey embodies a wealth of experiences across various industries. With over 20 years of experience in the dance industry both professionally and competitively, Ashley has committed to sharing her love of movement with her community and beyond. Already a dance teacher, she decided to continue her training and attend San Diego Miramar College for the 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training Program in 2021.
Currently serving as a key leader at Kona Kai Resort, Ashley oversees and leads a dynamic team responsible for managing multiple fitness and recreation related resort facilities. Her collaborative and positive approach to all things extends across departments, ensuring seamless integration of fitness and recreation services to enhance the overall guest experience.
In her spare time, Ashley handmakes coconut wax blend candles for her business, Ash & Embers Candles. She loves taking dance classes, yoga classes, stand-up paddleboarding, trips to Disneyland, and supporting local San Diego sports teams – GO AZTECS!
Her commitment to community service, dedication to wellness, and a diverse skill set demonstrate her drive to make meaningful contributions. As a leader, she strives to incorporate gratitude and emphasizes work-life balance to ensure a healthy overall well-being for her team and to all that visit Kona Kai.
